Meditations

For Services of the Holy Sophia
in the Month of March

THE COLLECT

Hear us O Father and Mother of the all; for we have been swept away by a dreadful torrent that seeks evil and darkness, a current that wanders about far from your holy breath. We seek to flee this bitter chaos, but we know not how to escape. On this account, we pray, send to us your redeeming power, make it descend and make its way through all the aeons, so that it may explain all mysteries and show us the image of the divine ones and the hidden things of the holy path. Let your power impart the true Gnosis to us and strengthen us in your wisdom and compassion so that we may lovingly gather the seeds of light from the sea of forgetfulness and be guided by your angels and messengers of light until the glorious and joyous hour when our light shall join your light, and we shall be hidden forever under your everlasting wings.

Amen.

THE LESSON

The Lesson is taken from the writings of the Holy Valentinus:

The sublime light of Sophia had come to be in every place, and in every place where it was it revealed the Father. The Father was kind to the contending aeons and merciful to the Lady Sophia who was rising out of the void outside of the Fullness. The sublime highest One limited strife among the quarreling universes; what was to go out he expelled, he healed the branches with first fruits, but he cut away the decayed ones which began to wither. So the worlds were saved from dark terror and ignorance.

THE GOSPEL

The Gospel is taken from the Gospel of St. Philip:

If I may be permitted to utter such a great mystery, the Father of all united with the virgin who came down, and a fire shone for him on that day. He revealed the great bridal chamber. Because of this his body, which came into being on that very day, left the bridal chamber as one who came into being from the bridegroom and the bride. So Jesus established the all in it through these. And it is fitting for each one of the disciples to enter into his Rest. Adam came into being from two virgins, from the Spirit and from the virgin earth. Because of this Christ was born of a virgin, in order that he might set in order the stumbling which came to pass in the beginning.
