Meditations

For Services of the Holy Sophia
in the Month of June

THE COLLECT

O Daughter of the Most High, our supernal mother and guide to freedom everlasting, who hast brought us to the beginning of true Gnosis, with thankful hearts we would raise our voices in thy praise, offering unto thee sincere veneration and dedicating ourselves once more to thy service. Grant unto us O blessed Sophia, the royal favour of inward happiness, and the serenity which comes from being close to thee. Daily renew in us our fervent desire for freedom from the bonds and darkness of the lower worlds, and may thy spirit dwell in our hearts, that we may rise with thee unto the freedom of light and love everlasting, through Christ our indwelling and evercoming Lord and Liberator.

Amen.

THE LESSON

The Lesson is taken from The Apocryphon of John:

The chief archon brought a part of his power out of Adam, and made of it another creature in the form of a woman according to the likeness of the Epinoia...And in that moment the shining woman from above appeared. She lifted the veil which lay over Adam's mind, and he became sober from the drunkenness of darkness. He recognized his counterimage and said, "This is indeed bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh." Therefore the man will leave his father and mother to cleave to his wife, and they will be one flesh, for the eternal ones sent him this consort. When Sophia came down in innocence to rectify the deficiency, through her Adam and Eve tasted perfect Gnosis, and they were awakened in their thinking.

THE GOSPEL

The Gospel is taken from the book of Pistis Sophia:

And Jesus, the First Mystery continued again and said to his disciples: "Pistis Sophia continued singing and said: My power, sing praises to the Light and forget not all the powers of the Light which it hath given unto thee. And the powers, which are in thee, sing praises to the name of this holy mystery; who forgiveth all thy transgression, who saveth thee from all the afflictions with which the emanations of the self-willed one constrained thee. Who hath saved thy light from the emanations of the self-willed one which belong to destruction; who hath wreathed thee with light in his compassion, until he saved thee. Who hath filled thee with purified light; and thy beginning will renew itself as an invisible of the Height. With these words Pistis Sophia sang praises, because she was saved and remembered all things which I had done unto her."
